❝Puppet Camp❞

7/28/25 UPDATE: OUR FIRST PUPPET CAMP IS FULL!
If you would like to hear about our future Puppet Camps and other events, please consider signing up for our newsletter at https://www.wildlandroots.org/newsletter
This is a free 1 day event to introduce folks (18+) to several different styles of puppetry with the goal of forming a small puppet troupe, as well as to recruit folks to perform giant pageant-style puppets at All Souls and other events. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
We're specifically looking for adults who are seriously interested in developing creative puppetry-based works in the North Portland area.
❝Puppet Camp❞ Schedule:
10 am-12 noon
Meet at the Wildland Roots workshop where we will have several stations set up with different puppetry styles including shadow puppetry, rod puppets, rod marionettes, and direct manipulation puppets. Participants will receive a brief intro to the different styles and techniques, then will have time at each station to explore and practice.
12 noon - 1pm
Lunch break
1 pm-3 pm
Meet at the Green Anchors pavilion where we will have several of our giant backpack mounted puppets ready to try out. Participants will receive coaching on how to put on, wear, perform with, and safely dismount the puppets.
This is our very first ❝Puppet Camp❞event, but we plan to offer it again with each iteration becoming more in depth as we develop our puppetry skill-sets and puppet library, as well as connections to folks we can invite in as guest instructors.
