Mask-making with Paper Mache (2 part class)

Learn how to create a unique wearable mask using traditional paper mache techniques. This is a two-part class offered on adjacent Saturdays. The small class size allows plenty of individual attention from the instructor as the masks are coaxed into being from clay and into paper.
Our instructor is Moni Sears, Artistic Director of Wildland Roots and founder of Goblin Art, who has over 20 years of mask-making experience, and whose professional work includes masks made for the Cirque Du Soleil Gift Shop, the 2006 Wicker Man film, Iron Maiden, and Llewellyn Books.
Class Schedule:
Day 1:
Morning: Introduction to the technique + sculpting mask design with clay over a plaster face form.
Afternoon: Apply the paper mache in layers using a biodegradable paste.
Day 2:
Morning: Pull the mask from the clay + reinforce the inside and edges with paper mache.
Afternoon: Add paint, padding and ties.
Location: We are at Green Anchors, 8940 N Bradford St, Portland, OR 97203. The Wildland Roots community workshop is at the NW corner of the yard. Please allow extra time to find your way there from the street entrance. If you can find the Love sign, we are behind it, just uphill from the river.
Parking: Please park in the neighborhood, or in the Cathedral Park Boat Ramp parking lot (Pay-to-Park). Only pre-arranged accessibility parking is available within Green Anchors .
